    Aunt Betty’s Attic

    An important source of income and other resources for the Mizell Senior Center is Aunt Betty’s Attic. Currently, our little store operates from a space that is 21’ by 21’. When we can offer more space, more income will be generated to support the programs and services of the Mizell Senior Center. Opportunities to underwrite this capital project in full or in part will help us toward our goal.  Also, Aunt Betty’s Attic always needs your donations to keep our inventory updated.  You can drop-off donations at our front desk or call 760-323-5689 x111 for larger donations of furniture.

    Meals on Wheels Vehicle, Hybrid Technology

    With our expanded Meals On Wheels Program, we are delivering meals to homebound seniors from Palm Springs to North Shore Salton Sea.  Out of our six delivery vehicles, three are approaching 100,000 miles, are incurring higher repair costs, and are gas guzzlers.  If a delivery vehicle breaks down, seniors are at risk of going without their meal and the food could spoil . . . especially in the hot summer months.

    Cost: $32,000

    For Our Meals On Wheels Clients

    Now that we are serving the entire Coachella Valley, we are finding clients in need of the simple basics.  Some don’t have blankets to keep warm for an oven to warm food.  We are collecting items that we can distribute when we see the need.  Please contribute the following items:

    • New Blankets
    • New or gently used toaster oven
    • New or gently used microwave

    New Lobby Furniture

    Our current Lobby Furniture is over 10 years old.  It is becoming very worn and tattered with outdated fabric and colors.  We need new Lobby Furniture or reupholstering the current furniture.

    Cost: $10,000

    New or Slightly Used Office Furniture

    Our office furniture dates back to 1991 when the building first opened.  It was used furniture at that time.  It is now dirty and worn, with broken drawers, stained tops, and a generally worn appearance.

    Cost: $10,000

    Conference Room Table and Chairs

    Our Conference Room Table is pitted with broken trim.  The chairs are 15 years old, stained and unsteady.  The conference room is used for committee meetings and small group meetings.

    Cost: $2,500 – For new table and 8 chairs

    Dining Room and Meeting Room Chairs

    Our Dining Room and Meeting Room Chairs were donated by the Palm Springs Convention Center ten years ago.  They are worn, stained, and faded.  We have cleaned them, but it is time for new chairs.  100 cloth covered chairs would cost $7500.00.  We need at least 200 chairs.

    Cost:  $15,000 for 200 chairs

    Office Reception Chairs

    Our Office Reception Chairs are at least 10 years old.  They are beyond cleaning and need replacing.  Some are on the verge of collapse.  These are the Office Reception Chairs with arms.  Gently used charis are also welcome.

    Cost:  $1,000 for Four Chairs

    New Patio Furniture

    Many of our members enjoy eating lunch on our shaded patio.  The tables and chairs are plastic and unsteady.  We would like to replace our current furniture with two tables with four chairs each.  A moderate quality set would be $250.00.

    Cost:  $250.00 for each set – $500.00 for both sets
