    • Stars Among Us

     

    Mizell Senior Center of Palm Springs has announced the Eighth Annual Stars Among Us Gala to take place on March 23, 2013 at the Palm Springs Air Museum.  Billed as the “Musical Experience of the Season,” Stars Among Us will recreate the 1964 Beatles concert at the famed Hollywood Bowl.  The event will feature Paperback Writer as “The Beatles Experience” and Bob Eubanks as Guest MC.  Although well known as the host of the popular “The Newlywed Game,” Eubanks in 1964 produced the original Beatles concert at The Hollywood Bowl, even mortgaging his home to raise the funds.  He will provide exciting behind the scenes insights into the first Beatles concert to take place on the West coast of the United States as the group was taking “the colonies” by storm.

    In addition to the Musical Experience of the Season, Mizell Senior Center will be honoring several long-time supporters and community institutions that are truly Stars Among Us.  They include Tracy Conrad, MD with the Gold Star Achievement Award, Jewish Federation of the Desert with the Galaxy Award, and the Palm Springs Rotary Foundation with the Shining Star Award.

    Denise Latini, Co-Chair of the Stars Among Us event committee said “We are especially proud to honor Tracy Conrad with our Gold Star Achievement Award in recognition of her outstanding leadership in the community and in particular, her support of Mizell Senior Center.”

    Suzanne Spencer, Co-Chair of the Stars Among Us event commented “We are honored to have been supported by both The Jewish Federation of the Desert and the Palm Springs Rotary Foundation for many years.  Their support of community organizations has gone without recognition for too long and we are pleased to finally recognize their invaluable support of our community.”

    Stars Among Us is the one social event of the Mizell Senior Center season and includes both a silent and live auction, entertainment and dinner for only $175 per ticket. This year, expect first class … throw out your ideas of a typical valley gala … expect “The Musical Experience of the Season” … expect surprises … and know that this growth is about our program growth.  Mizell Senior Center has recently expanded its Meals On Wheels Service throughout the Coachella Valley, serving over 70,000 meals each year to frail and homebound seniors from Palm Springs to North Shore Salton Sea.  This event will help support this vital program.  Sponsorship opportunities are available.  For information, contact Jack Newby at 760-323-5689 x118 for details.
