    Ballroom Dancing & Salsa – Beginning
    Former Fred Astaire and Arthur Murray dance instructor, Bob Rodriguez, will amaze his students on how easy and fun it is to dance.

    Ballroom Dancing & Salsa – Intermediate 2– This is a continuation of the class that started in January. This group has learned 6 dances which they will continue to master as well as new ones. It is also open to dancers with some experience. Former Fred Astaire and Arthur Murray dance instructor, Bob Rodriguez, will continue to amaze his students on how easy and fun it is to dance.

    Basic Jewelry Making 101 – Students will learn the basics of Costume Jewelry making techniques. Necklaces, Bracelets & Earrings will be made. The design, repair & enhancement of costume Jewelry and a basic understanding of the tools and materials needed to make Jewelry will be taught.  Topics being covered: Tools, Beads, Stringing Material, Findings & Bead Boards. Tools will need to be purchased before the first class. A detailed list of the needed tools and supplies will be available at the ticket window when registering.                        Thursday’s 10:00am – 12:00pm (on going)$5 per class for members/ $10 per class for non – members
    Supervised Bridge Play– Ready to take your bridge game up a notch? These sessions are intended for those who have the basic knowledge of bridge but would like to increase their confidence, understanding and improve their level or expertise. Instructor Gary Delestine will provide “supervised play” for 8 sessions. He will be available to advise and guide you as you play your game.
    Tuesdays: 8:30am – 11:00am  will resume in April 2013

    Creative Writing: The Fall ’12 Session – In the Creative Writing class, we study the craft of writing. We begin with Writing Aerobics, a ten minute creative stream of consciousness writing. Then we explore a craft issue such as the use of dialogue, plot development, character development, or how to develop memoir themes. We work on developing work for publication. Students are given weekly assignments and read their work aloud in class. The results are short stories, novels, memoirs, creative non-fiction, and poetry.
    Wednesdays: 10:00am – 12:00pm

    Computer Basics (This is a Beginning Course) –   This course is designed for the person who wants to learn how to use his/her computer. It will start with an overview of the computer and what an operating system is. Students will learn how to use the internet, how to set up and use an email account and an introduction on how to use word processing programs.
    Tuesdays and Thursdays: 12:30pm – 3:00pm
    Session 25: March 19th, 21st, 26th & 28th  Cost:  $60 for members/$90 for non-members.

    Computer Basics 2: Using Word 2010 (This is an Intermediate Course) – In this course the student will continue his/her exploration of Word Basics learning about page layout, checking spelling and grammar, and printing. In addition he/she  will start to explore common tasks in Word such as line and paragraph spacing, working with columns, and formatting pictures among other items. This class will also introduce working with tables, graphics and mail merge.

    Computer Basics 3: Using Excel 2010 (This is an Intermediate Course) – Learn how to use Excel 2010. We will show you how to store, manipulate and analyze data in organized workbooks for home and business tasks, for budgets, to – do lists, calendars or itemized lists of household property. We will start on what the program is, show you the simplest of methods and by the last session you will be using Excel for your own personal or household projects.

    Computer Tutorials – Instruction is individualized depending on the needs of the student. In other words, you get to design your own class. Some possible topics that can be covered are emails and attachments, scanning documents and uploading photos.
     Offered at two times ~ Mondays and Thursdays 8:00am – 9:00am

    Beginning Facebook Class– Have you been wondering what the Facebook craze is all about? This 2 session “hands on” course will cover creating, configuring and using a Facebook profile account. In addition to creating your account, you will learn how to add friends, view and send Facebook emails, edit and tag photos, join a network and create, view and RSVP events.
    Mondays: 10:00am – 11:00am (2nd and 3rd Monday)

    creativity circle…where the literay gourp and computer skills unite to explore self publishing –A group of writers and poets are invited to participate over the next 6 months to produce Mizell’s first ever self-published book. The group leader will be Helen Ruvelas who is a published poet, has edited and guided 6 anthologies to publication and is currently one of our Computer Teachers. Participants will bring their literary works (short stories, poetry and/or  journalism articles) weekly and as a group we will support each other’s work with critique, and discussion. We will decide what kind of anthology we will ultimately create and how we will handle all of the issues that arise from such an endeavor.  Along with the literary circle we will spend every other week concentrating on learning the computer skills needed to be able to hand over to a printer the completed work ready for publication.

    Improv. Theater for Seniors – an experience in Spontaneous Joy! –Session 2 - A Community, Senior, Improvisation theater group led by Kate Ullman. Tap into your inner spontaneous self. Have the opportunity to be present ion the moment in a playful manner. Learn basic stage and theater technique.  Learn to be creative in a fun and theatrical manner. New Students are Welcome!!!!     Life Story Writing – So, what are you going to do during these upcoming hot summer months?  How about writing down your life story?  The life story writing class can get you started.  This class will get you on track; give you directions on how to proceed, and various websites for information and assistance.  We will map out our lives and write on selected topics each week.  Our stories will be shared, read in class and discussed. Directions will be given on preparing a finished manuscript.  You know what Winston Churchill said, “History will be kind to me, for I intend to write it.”  Here is your chance to write your own personal history for yourself, for your family, for posterity.  Don’t miss this opportunity to get started in the hot, lazy days of summer. Please bring a pad and pen to class.

    Mah Jongg Lessons  and Guided Play- Have you always wanted to learn to play the game of Mah Jongg? Now is your chance. Pauline Freidan, a player with 55 years experience, will teach you the joys of the game. The class will include the history and concept of the game along with methods of forming winning hands, playing to win, aggressive play and defensive play.   There will also be instructive guidance each week during play.

    UCLA Memory Training Course – The goals of the Memory Training Course are to help you develop good memory habits and to teach you techniques to improve your memory. The course targets the four most common memory complaints that people experience in daily life:
    1) Forgetting names and faces
    2) Forgetting to do things in the future
    3) Forgetting where you put things
    4) Knowing something you can’t immediately recall
    The techniques in the course include strategies like organization, association and imagery to make information more memorable.
    Thursdays,   8:00am – 10:00am  –  Will resume in April 2013                      $40 members/$70 non-members

    The Mizell Players: Spring Season- This program is designed for a group of friendly theater enthusiasts who would like to hone their skills in various theatre genres in order to develop an interactive program which can be shared with residents in various assisted living facilities.  No experience is necessary, just a desire to have fun, laugh and make new friends in a non judgmental setting.  This class will be facilitated by Joan McGillis who has over 30 years of experience producing, directing, acting and teaching theater.
    Wednesdays : 3:00pm – 5:00pm  this class will resume in April of 2013

    Pastel Art Studio
    Come and explore your artistic talents. Whether you are a beginner or have been drawing for years this studio will allow you to continue to learn and explore different techniques when working in pastels.
    Fridays: 9:00am – 11:30am & Fridays 1:00pm – 3:30pm 
    $5 for members per session /$10 non-members – per session Must pay for both classes if both are attended) 

    Photo Editing Basics –
    This class will lead you through the process of using a scanner to transfer photos from your albums or boxes or from your cell phone to your computer. You will be able to sort through your pictures, label each photo and organize them on your computer so that they can be found quickly. Please bring with you pictures you wish to scan, your camera and its USB cable, or your cell phone and its’ USB cable. Please also bring a USB Flash Drive so that you can take your photos home. This class will also focus on photo editing software (we will be using at least 2 different software programs) and using your own photos to remove “red eye”, change color or the poorly focused photos, and begin to understand how professional photographers always manage to make their photos eye catching.

    .Walk Among the Stars… 4 Neighborhood Walks  An Encore! -Join your friends and Roger Freeman, an aficionado of celebrity homes, as he leads a tour through a different neighborhood each week sharing the history of the stars that lived there. This is a great way to see the various neighborhoods of Palm Springs and have a healthy walk at the same time.
