    • Music and Arts

    Wednesday Jam Sessions at the Mizell Senior CenterMizell Senior Center offers a variety of Music and Arts Programs. Our popular Wednesday Jam Sessions feature musicians both locally and from around the globe. It is a true Jam Session, so if you play an instrument, even if it has been a while, stop by and start Jammin’. Jam Sessions are every Wednesday morning from 10:00 AM to Noon. Many just stop by to listen to this great group of musicians. Don’t miss it ….. our Jam Session is a must see in Palm Springs.

    On the third Wednesday of each month we feature Sing Around the Piano from 4:00PM to 5:00PM. Please join us on December 14th, January 18th, February 15th and March 21st.

    Jazz from the Heart…A Valentine Concert will be presented on Thursday, February 16th at 12:30 pm. Please join us for an afternoon of jazz featuring Gordon Parr and the Dixie Cats and our special guest, The Palm Springs High School’s Jazz Band: The Spirit of the Sands. In addition some of the desert’s best vocalist will be here to entertain you. This concert is only $5.00.

    The Mizell Senior Center presents a musical preview of MUSICAL CHAIRS’  Polka Dot and Moonbeams: The Songs of Jimmy Van Heusen on Monday, February 27th at 7:00pm. A company of 18 singers, musicians and dancers will perform songs written for Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra. Come and listen to “All the Way”, “Come Fly With Me”, “High Hopes”, “Moonlight Becomes You” and many more. Ticket will be available at the Mizell Ticket Window or by calling 760-323-5689 starting on Monday, February 6th. Tickets are $15 for members and $20 for non-members and on the night of the performance.

    On Friday’s, we feature Gordon Parr and the Dixiecats at 10:00 AM and Frank Jordan’s Compact Big Band at 12:30 PM. You can stop and listen to great music or join others in dancing to the music and beat of the Big Bands.

    Arts

    Pastel ArtIf you are artistically inclined, our Pastel Art Studio meets every Friday at 9:00 AM. All skill levels are encouraged to join and we even feature some of the artwork of class participants in the Noia Auditorium.

    Starting in February, we will be offering a Beginning Drawing Class. This is your opportunity to learn how to draw what you see or what is in your imagination. All the materials are supplied. The class will meet on Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:00 to 5:00pm. The class goes from February 1st to March 2nd. The cost is only $90 for members and $120 for non-members.     Our Knitting Circle meets every Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 PM. Whether you are a knitter or have always wanted to learn, you can join this delightful group ofKnitting Yarn
    knitters every Wednesday for tips, teaching and lively conversation. This group
    is free to members and $5 for guests. Those who crochet and do needlepoint are
    also welcome to join.
