Computer Learning Center Cyberspace For Seniors
The Jerry Behrend Computer Learning Center at Mizell Senior Center is a state-of-the-art center designed for teaching various classes for all levels of computer knowledge. From the introductory Computer Basics to advanced classes in word processing, and introduction to Facebook, to individualized instruction, the Computer Learning Center has something for everyone. Members may also sign-up to use our front desk computer at no cost. Details are available with the front desk volunteers. Class sizes are limited, so sign-up early. Upcoming Classes include:
Computer Basics – This course is designed for the person who wants to learn how to use his/her computer. It will start with an overview of the computer and what an operating system is. Students will learn how to use the internet, how to set up and use an email account and an introduction on how to use word processing programs.
Tuesdays and Fridays: 12:30pm – 3:00pm

Computer Basics 2 – This program is designed for students who have completed the Center’s Beginning Computer Course. (If you have not had Computer Basics, but need an intermediate class we suggest you sign up for a Computer Tutorial.) In this course students will continue their exploration of Word Basics learning about page layout, checking spelling and grammar, and printing. In addition they will start to explore common tasks in Word such as line and paragraph spacing, working with columns, and formatting pictures among other items. This class will also introduce working with tables, graphics and mail merge.

Facebook Classes – Have you been wondering what the Facebook craze is all about? This two session “hands on” course will cover creating, configuring and using a Facebook profile account. In addition to creating the account, you will learn how to add friends, view and send Facebook e-mails, upload photos and more.
Mondays: 10am – 11am

$30 for members/$60 for non-members
Computer Tutorials – This is individualized instruction depending on the needs of the student. Each student is able to design their own class. Possible topics are computer basics, E-mails and attachments, Scanning Documents and photos, uploading photos and photo editing and Music applications for mp3 players. The number of classes is tailored to the student’s individual needs. Cost for a group lesson (two people in the class) is $25 for members and $55 for non-members. Private lessons are $35 for Members and $65 for non-members. Classes are one hour each.

You are invited to attend a presenation called The Benefits of Computers for Seniors at 10:00 am. This will be by Abby Strokes, author of Is This Thing On?… A Computer Handbook for Late Bloomers, Technophobes, and the Kicking and Screaming. Abby has presented to over 140, 000 people on how the computer can help make their lifes easier. This program is in conjunction with our Widows and Widowers’ Group. It is free to members and $5.00 for non-members.
