Get ready to Celebrate the Soundtrack of Our Lives with the 7th Annual Stars Among Us coming on Saturday, March 24 at the Palm Springs Hilton Hotel. This year we are
featuring music from the ’50s and ’60′s capped by the Ultimate Tribute to the Beach Boys by Surfin’ Safari. This is the 50th Anniversary of the Beach Boys, and this show will be a major treat. The event is hosted by Legendary K-EARTH disc jockey, Brian Beirne, “Mr. Rock ‘N Roll.” Honorees this year include Rick Wade with the Gold Star Achievement Award, The Galaxy Award to the H.N. and Frances C. Special Event: A Taste of Italy
You won’t want to miss “A Taste of Italy”, a very special culinary evening host
ed by Kitchen Kitchen For the Chef in You. This special event is a fundraiser for the Mizell Meals On Wheels Program and takes place on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Kitchen Kitchen located at 74-945 Highway 111 in Indian Wells. Highlighting the regional cuisine of Southern Italy, this event will feature cooking demonstrations by Russ and Jackie Olden and Chef John Gargone. Entertainment will be provided by the “Singing Wait Staff” of Cafe Italia. This will also be an opportunity to purchase tickets for a very special Raffle of an Italian Culinary Adventure on the Amalfi Coast of Italy. About Mizell
Mizell Senior Center has been serving the greater Palm Springs area for over 35 years, and is the community focal point on healthy and active aging. This is a place where Active Seniors come together for service and activity which enhances their dignity, supports their independence, and encourages their involvement in and with the community.
Programs support individuals in all phases of the aging process and promote healthy aging, wellness, and community participation. The mission of the Mizell Senior Center is to enhance the lives and welfare of adults who live in or visit our community. Programs and services at Mizell Senior Center are designed to meet the needs of low income seniors and to provide opportunities to combat loneliness, isolation, and maintain active productive lives. Loneliness, isolation, and depression know no economic boundaries. We have over 50,000 visits each year from individuals taking part in our activities and programs.
Specific programs include Meals On Wheels, exercise and fall reduction programs, congregate meals on and off site, counseling, health checks, and a variety of social and recreational programs to increase socialization. Our annual flu shot program provides low cost flu vaccinations to nearly 400 high risk seniors in partnership with Desert Regional Hospital.
Daily Lunches
Hot lunches are served daily. Lunch is $4.00, however no senior will be denied a meal due to inability to pay. Vouchers for meals will be available at the Mizell Senior Center Ticket Window on a first come, first served basis. Entertainment provided.

in your imagination. Explore the world of art in a stress-free, step-by-step, hands-on creative class that will stretch your creativity and yield you satisfying results. Using pencils, colored pencils, charcoal and all sorts of tricks of the trade, we will make you the artist you always wanted to be. Maybe we have the next Leonardo or Michelangeo, just waiting to unleash their hidden talents. The class meets on Wednesdays and Fridays beginning February 1 through March 2 from 3:00PM to 5:00PM and is taught by Dennis Jory, a former California teacher of the year. The cost is $90 for members and $120 for non-members and includes all of your art supplies. Class size is limited to 15 students to allow for individualized instruction. We Care Free Mammogram Program
Mizell Senior Center is hosting the Desert Women for Equality “We Care free
Mammogram Program” on Thursday, February 9 from 8:00AM to 5:00PM. This program is designed for women who do not have health insurance or whose health insurance does not cover the cost of this preventative testing. In order to participate, women need to be at least age 40 and have not had breast implants. Please call Desert Women for Equality at 760-325-4701 for an appointment. Walk-ins are accepted as time permits.
